Hayden Norman has today grabbed his second Far Western Championship win for Street Stocks, holding off a hard fighting Jace Kempton for the win.
Coming into today’s event at Shark Bay Speedway, Norman and Kempton had each won the event previously in the last two years and would continue their good form to start on the front row for the twenty lap feature together.
Norman got the jump over Kemtpon while behind them Barry Rewell would settle into third. Hamish Macalpine would then become the first retiree of the race as he slowed and headed infield before completing a lap while Norman would officially lead the opening circulation.
Still up front and Kempton would quickly fight back on Norman, moving around his outside to lead the second lap by 0.194 seconds.
Of course, Norman didn’t give up, staying under Kemtpon, with just 0.088 separating them on lap three, and 0.036 seconds on lap four.
Norman went high in turn two the next lap, allowing Kempton to break away, but Norman would just not go away and slowly pegged back the difference, the two side by side again on lap seven. Yet again Kempton broke away but as before, Norman would not give up, again working to close the gap.
Norman would gain ground and tap Kempton’s bumper several times, letting him know he was there and ready to pounce if he made a mistake. Norman then moved high before suddenly ducking back low, making the move and grabbing the lead as Kempton went sideways coming out of turn four in what would be the race winning move.
From here Norman then opened up a huge gap over the next three laps, going on to win by some 4.4 seconds ahead of Kempton while Rewell finished a solid third.
This event doubled as the third round of the Novus Autoglass Carnarvon Speedway Sedan Digest Gold Cup Series, with Norman now having claimed three wins from three rounds and now leading the series by 46 points over Kempton. The next round will is slatedto be contested at Pithara Speedway on the 26th of August for the Street Stock Classic.
